FAQs
Does insurance cover mental health therapy/counselling?
Most insurance providers cover services for social work. Note most providers specify what type of professional counselling/therapy services they cover (ex. counsellor, social worker, psychologist) so please check with yours to ensure it covers social work services.
What payments do you accept?
I accept cash, e-transfer, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Payment is due at time of session.
Do you direct bill?
To make therapy more accessible, I can direct bill to Blue Cross, Sunlife and NIHB Insurance. Please note- for direct billing I require a credit card on file that following our session I will automatically bill the outstanding balance that is not covered by insurance (does not apply to NIHB). For all other insurance providers, I will provide a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.
What is the cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. As such, I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment.
I understand life happens and things come up. If it is your first time missing a session or cancelling less than 24 hours before, you can use your annual “freebie”. For subsequent misses/late cancellations a $60 cancellation fee will need to be paid before scheduling another session.
Do you accept Non-Insured Health Benefits?
Yes, clients with treaty status are eligible through the NIHB program for 22 free sessions per year. A treaty number is required so I can apply on your behalf to set up your account.
How long are therapy sessions?
A standard session is 50 minutes. The last 5 minutes will be reserved for wrapping up the session and having time to schedule another session if you wish.
Another option is an 80 minute session. This can be good option if you tend to space your sessions out more than 4 weeks at a time or know you will need more time to discuss a particular topic.
